Updated Platinum Advantage Marketing Materials

The Standard has amended the Platinum Advantage base contract to align more closely with the industry regarding medical treatment during a claim. The new language is reflected in the updated Platinum Advantage Annotated Sample Policy and Consumer Brochure, as well as The Standard's IDI Online Reference Product Guide.

What's Changed

  • We've clarified what it means to be under the care of a physician. You'll see this updated language regarding definition of disability: “…under the regular medical care of one or more physicians appropriate for your injury or sickness.”
  • The updated contract defines regular medical care: “Regular Medical Care means the appropriate medical treatment for your Injury or Sickness, based on prevailing medical standards. Regular Medical Care includes compliance with appropriate medical treatments recommended by the Physician(s) providing care for your Injury or Sickness.”
  • We added language to clarify that the definition of Mental Disorder is one in which “you are under the regular care of a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist or other appropriately licensed health care practitioner.” The addition is in bold.

This language will be included in all new policies, effective immediately. We will not change existing in-force policies.

Please be sure to use the updated Platinum Advantage Annotated Sample Policy and Consumer Brochure and discard any existing printed copies.
