Direct-to-Applicant DocuSign Pilot Saves 2 Weeks

We conducted a pilot project to test requesting underwriting questionnaires and authorizations directly from applicants through the secure system of DocuSign. Five agencies volunteered for the pilot, hoping to help us reduce the average two to three weeks it usually took to collect such forms, which significantly delayed underwriting decisions.

We are happy to report the pilot exceeded our expectations, saving two weeks in cycle time! 55 percent of requested documents were returned within 48 hours, and the rest were submitted within a week. Overall feedback was positive:

  • Agencies shared they felt informed throughout the process, never surprised or unaware of an application’s status.
  • Some producers shared that The Standard contacting their clients directly enabled them to avoid awkward conversations about private medical information.
  • Applicants noted that the experience was easy and convenient as they were already familiar with e-signature technology in so many other parts of their lives, such as with mortgages or bank authorizations.

Given the overwhelming success of this pilot, we will expand this to all agencies throughout the year. You can expect a phone call from your new business case manager to walk you through the details and create an implementation plan with you. Or, if you’re ready to get started right away, feel free to call your case manager now.
