Best Practice for In Force Cases: Annual Reviews

By keeping your in force GSI cases up to date, you can keep your clients happy and boost your commissions. You can earn first-year commissions on both in force benefit increases and new additions each year. Conducting annual reviews of your in force GSI cases is good for you and good for your clients.

The first step? Get an updated census from your current clients. We’ll review your cases each year to:

  • Offer increases in coverage to meet earnings growth. Are employees making more? If so, we’ll increase coverage to match their higher incomes — up to the plan limit.
  • Capture any missed additions. New hires and existing employees who newly meet the member definition should be added to the case throughout the year. The annual case review provides a double check that all eligible employees are participating in the plan.
  • Determine if it’s time for a plan-design change. Are employees reaching the maximum benefit limit before meeting the target income replacement? If so, The Standard can review the plan to see if it’s time to offer a plan-wide increase.

Your Clients Will Appreciate It

Employers in today’s low unemployment-rate environment are competing for top talent. You’re helping your clients offer an important employee benefit to attract and keep key personnel. With your help, they can be sure that their employees’ incomes are protected to the percentage amount promised. That can ensure they won’t be unpleasantly surprised at claim time.

Benefits for You

On top of the additional income from increases and additions, you can rest assured that your cases are providing comprehensive income protection at the right levels. This helps make sure your cases are competitive — and not vulnerable to competing brokers.
