Reduce Claims Delays: Top 5 NIGO Reasons We’re Seeing Right Now

We recognize that the claims process is a sensitive and important time for your clients and their families. Your role in reviewing submissions before they are sent can help keep the process running smoothly.

Missing or incomplete information is one of the most common reasons processing is slowed. Taking a moment to review submissions carefully can help keep everything on track and reduce unnecessary follow-up.

Common items to review:

  1. Beneficiary Claim Form is incomplete or missing notarization
    Make sure the claim form is fully completed and notarized. If the beneficiary has previously done business with The Standard, a photo ID may be accepted instead of notarization. 
  2. Letter of Acceptance or Transfer forms are missing 
    When requesting funds be sent to another carrier, submit claim forms and transfer forms together.
  3. Estate is listed as beneficiary, but supporting documents are missing
    Include estate documentation when the estate is named as beneficiary. This may include Letters of Testamentary, Letters of Administration or a Small Estate Affidavit.
  4. Power of Attorney documentation is incomplete
    If a POA is signing, include both the notarized POA affidavit and a copy of the POA document confirming signing authority.
  5. Certification of Trust or Trust documents missing 
    Include The Standards Certification of Trust form 21647 with the Trust title and signature page. Additional Trust documents may be requested if needed.
     

Quick Reminders:

  • Beneficiary claim forms must be notarized unless an approved photo ID exception applies
  • Include transfer paperwork and LOA from ceding carrier for external transfers
  • Provide estate documentation when the estate is named as beneficiary
  • Include both POA affidavit and POA documents when a POA signs
  • Submit The Standard’s Certification of Trust form 21647 when a trust is the beneficiary
