Write Around Portland provides free creative writing workshops and publishing opportunities to underserved youth, adults and seniors in the Portland area.
What We Do
Since 1999, we’ve held hundreds of free creative writing workshops for adults and youth in hospitals, schools, prisons, shelters, senior centers, low-income housing, and treatment facilities; we’ve organized more than 250 community readings for participants to share their writing with the public; and published nearly 60 anthologies of their work.

Writing is an amazing thing in and of itself, but it’s an especially powerful tool for building respect. When you respect someone deeply and you see them as a full human being - that’s quite radical and that is very rare.
