SMART Reading

Reading matters. The simple magic and joy of a shared book can change a child’s life trajectory.

Our vision as a literacy nonprofit is an Oregon where all children can realize their full potential through reading. We provide a meaningful way for the community to support kids and their families through shared reading time and access to books.

What We Do

At SMART Reading, we believe that reading is the gateway to learning and opportunity for Oregon’s kids. We mobilize our statewide community of volunteers to make a direct impact on kids through shared reading sessions and new books to keep. We have many volunteer opportunities that vary in their time commitment and role. These include weekly reading time with students, one-time book cleaning sessions, and much more.

Opportunities

Volunteers are the heartbeat of SMART Reading. Our work impacting the lives and literacy skills of thousands of kids across Oregon through reading support and books is only possible due to the generous donations of time, attention, and care that our volunteers pour into our programs.
