Supporting Employees Navigating Despair

Behavioral health conditions that result in diseases of despair can be life altering. Diseases of despair are connected to one’s feelings of hopelessness.

HR decision-makers face the challenge of improving access to behavioral health resources for employees. Research shows that only 23% of HR decision-makers rated themselves as “excellent” at improving access to services and support for addressing behavioral health problems in the workplace.* This indicates that over 70% need more help in this critical area.

To address this gap, The Standard provides an Employee Assistance Program, or EAP, to support employees through personal or work issues, such as diseases of despair.

Experiencing a sense of despair may be only one of the disruptions an employee is facing. A good EAP can help ease other work and life challenges. The Standard partners with Health AdvocateSM to provide an EAP that offers services such as:

  • Behavioral health tools and counseling for depression, anxiety, substance abuse and other personal challenges
  • Mindfulness resources to help manage stress and improve focus
  • Financial Fitness Center with access to financial experts, consultations and resources
  • Support for divorce, grief, loss and other life transitions
  • Personalized Legal Center with access to legal experts and consultation services
  • Assistance locating child care, elder care and special needs services

It's important to remember no two workplaces and no two employees are the same. But having the right benefits and resources in place can make a big difference toward support.

An EAP can help find support and resources. Contact a representative near you if you have questions or want more information about EAP resources.
