Apply Anytime With Proof of Good Health

CTA members can apply for CTA-endorsed Disability and Life insurance at any time with satisfactory proof of good health. There are also several special enrollment opportunities available (listed below) when eligible members can apply without answering health questions. It takes just a few minutes to start your online application. If you don’t qualify for a special enrolment opportunity, you will be asked to provide a Medical History Statement after applying.

Special Enrollment Opportunities

New Hire and District Transfer

Members new to their district can apply for CTA-endorsed Disability insurance and up to $400,000 of CTA-endorsed Life insurance1 with no health questions asked within 270 days of starting work at the new district. If you had coverage with The Standard at your prior district, you must reapply at the new school district as the coverage doesn’t automatically transfer to the new employer.

Family Status Change

Members can apply for CTA-endorsed Disability insurance and up to $400,000 of CTA-endorsed Life insurance1 coverage within 60 days following the date of a family status change event, such as birth or adoption, marriage or domestic partnership, divorce or dissolution, loss of spousal employment, or other qualifying event.

Port Over Enrollment

If you are covered by a different Disability insurance carrier, you have two opportunities each year to switch your Disability coverage to The Standard without answering any health questions. You must apply during one of the special enrollment opportunity windows of March 1 - April 30 or October 1 – November 30.

Chapter Campaign Special Enrollment

A special enrollment opportunity for eligible members of a local CTA chapter to apply without answering health questions - only available every 2-3 years. Talk with your chapter leader about your chapter's next special enrollment opportunity.
