Limited Time Offer
As a CTA member, you can always apply for CTA-endorsed Disability insurance from The Standard with proof of good health — even if you're covered by a different insurance company. To make it easier for you, we offer two special opportunities each year between October 1 – November 30 and March 1 – April 30 to switch your disability coverage without answering health questions.
Before you apply, be sure to compare your current disability plan with the CTA-endorsed plan, and understand how any differences may impact your personal situation. We've created an easy checklist you can download to help you compare Disability insurance plans.
How It Works
- Apply for coverage with The Standard on this website.
- Provide The Standard with proof of current Disability coverage from another carrier — it’s best to submit it with your application. See below for more details.
- After you receive your enrollment confirmation from The Standard, cancel your prior Disability plan. This will ensure you don't have any gaps in coverage. You can use the Payroll Stop Deduction Sheet to provide to your district to stop payment of your previous coverage.
Proof of Current Disability Coverage
To enroll through this enrollment opportunity, you need to provide proof of current Disability coverage through another carrier.
- For example: the most recent paystub showing your current Disability plan deductions. Acceptable formats: PDF, scan, image or screenshot.
- How to submit: the best way to submit your proof of coverage is with your application — you will have an opportunity to upload it at the time of signing your application in DocuSign. If you don’t have the document at the time of applying, you will need to email your proof of coverage to ctaservice@standard.com as soon as possible.

CTA Member Testimonial
When they say they go above and beyond - they mean it! I had a medical emergency at a conference. The representative from The Standard drove me to the emergency room and ensured that I was treated promptly despite my lack of ID or insurance card. As a young healthy teacher, I never thought I would need the policy; as an experienced educator with health conditions, I know I cannot work without it!
