To make it easier for you, we offer two special opportunities each year between October 1 - November 30 and March 1 - April 30 to switch your coverage without answering health questions.

Three Easy Steps to Switch Your Coverage

Important: Please do not cancel your current insurance coverage until after you get confirmation of coverage from The Standard in step 3.  This will ensure you don't have any gaps in coverage.

  1. Apply for coverage with The Standard on this webpage.
  2. Provide The Standard with proof of coverage with another carrier, such as a payroll stub showing deductions. Email your proof of coverage document to ctaservice@standard.com.
  3. Cancel your current coverage after you receive enrollment confirmation from The Standard. You can use the Payroll Stop Deduction Sheet to provide to your district to stop payment of your previous coverage.

Remember, you must apply between March 1 - April 30 or October 1 - November 30 to take advantage of this special enrollment opportunity.

 

 

 

Note: If you are considering switching your disability insurance coverage from another carrier to the CTA-endorsed plan, be sure you understand any differences between the plans' terms, exclusions and benefits and how they could apply to your personal situation.

 

 

1 Examples of deductible income include: substitute differential pay, personal leave pay, severance pay, catastrophic/extraordinary leave bank, salary continuation, workers' compensation, work earnings, social security, state disability, CalPERS/CalSTRS benefits.

2 Summer Benefit is offered by CTA to eligible members who meet the Definition of Disability with a Disability date on or after 9/1/2022 who meet additional specific criteria. Summer Benefit is only   payable during the calendar months of June and July, for up to two Benefit Years for each instance of qualifying Disability. Summer Benefit is not provided under the Voluntary Disability insurance policy. CTA provides this benefit at no extra cost and The Standard acts only as the claims administrator of this benefit.

Additional Benefits At No Extra Cost

With CTA-endorsed Disability insurance, you may be eligible for additional benefits paid on top of disability benefits from The Standard.  This means extra cash in your pocket if your approved claim qualifies for these benefits: 
 

NEW! Summer Benefit1
$500 per week (maximum of $4,500) during the months of June and July for eligible members who become or continue to be Disabled with a Disability date on or after September 1, 2022.1

 

Student Loan Benefit
Active CTA members approved for a disability claim with an active student loan may be eligible for an additional benefit of up to $400 a month (for a maximum of $2,400, not to exceed the balance of the student loan).

 

Cancer Benefit
Active CTA members approved for a disability claim due to cancer may be eligible for an additional benefit of up to $400 a month (for a maximum of $2,400).
