Group Life Insurance

Basic Life

NMRHCA provides a Basic Life insurance plan if you are an "eligible retiree" (as defined in NMSA 10-7C-4) who participates under the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority. If you retired prior to 01/01/2012, your Basic Life coverage amount is $6,000.

Additional Life

NMRHCA recognizes that individuals have different needs. That is why we provide you with the opportunity to apply for the right amount of protection for you and your loved ones at competitive group rates.

Retiree Coverage Options:

For You: You may elect coverage in the amount of $2,000, $4,000, $6,000, $8,000, $10,000, $15,000, $20,000, $40,000, $46,000 or $60,000.

For Your Spouse/Domestic Partner: You may elect coverage in the amount of $2,000, $4,000, $6,000, $8,000, $10,000, $15,000, $20,000, $40,000, $46,000 or $60,000.

For Your Child(ren): You may elect coverage in the amount of $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000.

Spouse/Domestic Partner, or Child of a Deceased Eligible (but not insured under the Group Policy) Retiree who is Receiving a Survivor’s Pension Benefit Coverage Options:

For You: You may elect coverage in the amount of $2,000, $4,000, $6,000, $8,000 or $10,000.

For Your Child(ren): You may elect coverage in the amount of $2,500, $5,000 or $10,000.

How to Enroll

Contact NMRHCA toll-free at 1.800.233.2576 and request a Change Request form and Life Insurance Medical History Statement (MHS) – one MHS form for each retiree and/or spouse applying; or visit NMRHCA's Forms and Important Information page and select the form links previously listed.

To expedite your request, complete the Change Request Form and Life Insurance Medical History Statement (MHS) and return all forms to the NMRHCA at:

Medical history decisions can take up to 6-8 weeks and up to 8-12 weeks for applications received October through February. The Standard will send you a detailed decision letter.

Travel Assistance

Group Life insurance coverage from The Standard includes Travel Assistance. Travel Assistance provides services at no charge to you and your immediate family members for most trips — for business or pleasure. You can use Travel Assistance to help plan a trip and when you’re on the road.

Support Before and During Trips

The Standard partners with Assist America, Inc. to provide the resources below and more. 

Here's How It Works:

  • Available 24/7 for travel more than 100 miles from home and internationally for up to 180 days for business or pleasure
  • Coverage for you, spouse/domestic partner and child(ren) through age 25; spouses/domestic partners and child(ren) aren’t eligible for services when traveling on business for their employers
  • Easy access via Assist America Mobile App

    • Country-specific information on visas, currency  exchanges, inoculations, travel advisories and more

    • Help replacing lost or stolen baggage, credit cards and passports and accessing interpretation/translation services

    • Help locating providers, replacing prescription medications, advancing funds for hospital admission and locating local attorneys and consular officers
  • Emergency Transportation Services
    • Arranging and paying for emergency evacuation to the nearest adequate medical facility
    • Medically necessary repatriation to your home
    • Repatriation of remains
    • Evacuation arrangements — for natural disasters, political unrest and social instability; must be arranged by Assist America, Inc.
