Form 5500 Filing

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the DOL making the change?

The DOL has implemented this change to improve the speed and accuracy of the data and the speed with which it is collected from Form 5500 to support various U.S. Government e-filing initiatives and to ensure that information available on Form 5500 is readily available to various government agencies which oversee retirement plans.

Why is my Form 5500 now a 5500-SF?

The Pension Protection Act of 2006 created Form 5500-SF, Short Form Return/Report of Small Employee Benefit Plan for plans with 100 or fewer participants. This new form is a simplified version of the annual return filed in prior years, Form 5500. This form must also be signed and filed electronically. If your plan is eligible for the 5500-SF that is what we will prepare for you.
