Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance is designed to pay a monthly benefit to you in the event you cannot work for 120 or 180 days or longer because of a covered illness or injury. This LTD benefit replaces a portion of your income, helping you to meet your financial commitments in a time of need.
Members as defined in the Certificate of Insurance are automatically eligible to enroll in one of the Montana University System's two Buy-up Long Term Disability (LTD) programs. You are automatically enrolled in the base plan which provides coverage up to 60% of the first $15,333 of your predisability earnings once you have been Disabled for 180 days or more. If you require additional coverage beyond the base plan you may enroll in one of two buy-up program options that increase the amount of coverage and/or decrease the length of time you must be disabled before benefits become payable (Benefit Waiting Period). Buy-up LTD Option 1 covers 66 2/3% of the first $13,800 of your predisability earnings with a Benefit Waiting Period of 180 days. Option 2 covers 66 2/3% of the first $13,800 of your predisability earnings with a Benefit Waiting Period of 120 days. Please note that no benefits are payable during the Benefit Waiting Period. The maximum LTD benefit is $9,200 per month.
