The CSU provides eligible employees and their families the opportunity to purchase Critical Illness Insurance. Critical Illness Insurance is an affordable way to make up the difference between what your medical insurance covers and what you'd owe out of pocket if you or a family member were to be diagnosed with a covered critical illness.

You may be eligible to purchase coverage between $5,000 and $50,000 in $5,000 increments for yourself and up to $30,000 for your spouse. Your kids are automatically covered at 50 percent of the amount elected for yourself. Kids are also covered for 21 additional childhood diseases, including cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Your rates will not increase as you grow older – meaning you'll have the same monthly payment for as long as you have your coverage.

For answers to commonly asked questions, costs, exclusions, and limitations, please review the Critical Illness Insurance Brochure.

If you get hurt in an accident or sick from a serious illness, your medical insurance will help, but it won't pay for everything.

Group Critical Illness insurance

Group Critical Illness insurance can help with costs from a serious illness that your medical insurance doesn't cover. It pays you or a covered family member a lump sum to use toward expenses like deductibles, groceries or child care during recovery.
