Employee Programs

Days Of Caring

The Standard regularly offers volunteer opportunities for employees and their families which include activities that range from a two- to eight-hour commitment and are scheduled during work hours as well as weekends to accommodate schedules and family activities. All regular full- and part-time employees are eligible to receive up to eight hours of company-paid time annually to volunteer in their communities.

Employee Giving Campaign And
Corporate Matching Gift Program

The annual Employee Giving Campaign gives employees and retirees the chance to donate to the eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or educational institution of their choice and have their donation matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 per employee by The Standard. The program is available to all regular, part-time and full-time employees and retirees. In 2014, employees pledged more than $700,000 to more than 1,100 different organizations across the country. After The Standard's dollar-for-dollar match, more than $1.7 million was distributed.

Jeans Days Program

Our Jeans Days program allows employees of The Standard to wear blue jeans on Friday in exchange for a donation to a national nonprofit organization. It's a fun – and effective! – way to raise money. In 2014, this program raised more than $150,000 for our partner, Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area.

Board And Community Involvement

The Standard supports employees by offering annual board effectiveness training and through philanthropic donations given to organizations with employee board members. Today, hundreds of our employees are active as nonprofit board members across the country.

Leo Award

The Leo Award honors employees' commitment to volunteerism. This quarterly award is voted on by employees for employees and honors the spirit of community and philanthropy begun by our founder Leo Samuel.

Volunteer Expo

Each September, The Standard hosts Oregon's largest Volunteer Expo in Portland, Oregon and Cincinnati, Ohio to help connect employees and members of the community with the local volunteer opportunities that match their interests and expertise. Representatives from local and national nonprofits share their mission and volunteer opportunities.
