Professional LTD coverage from The Standard offers professionals a range of product features and services tailored to their needs. Compared to a traditional plan, participants covered by Professional LTD are not subject to certain claim management features of our contract and have a more generous definition of disability.

Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance Options For Physicians And Attorneys

Physicians and attorneys invest considerable time and resources to train for their careers. Because of these unique training and job requirements, if their ability to practice becomes limited by disability, they may have different income protection needs than other employees.

Preferred Segment LTD insurance for physicians and attorneys addresses these needs by removing the Mandatory Rehabilitation and Return to Work Responsibility provisions and offering a more generous definition of disability, in addition to the following features and options.

Own Specialty

Under the optional "Own Specialty" definition of disability, The Standard may consider a medical specialty or sub-specialty to be a medical doctor's occupation if the doctor meets certain requirements. Likewise, The Standard may consider a particular legal subject matter area or type of legal practice to be an attorney's occupation, if the attorney meets certain requirements.
