See Why Platinum Advantage Is Such a Good Fit for Medical Residents

Updated June 27, 2018

Are medical residents part of your client base? With high-growth income potential and probable student loans, these early professionals have plenty of reasons to protect their earnings. And with Platinum Advantage, you have plenty of opportunity to show them how.

Platinum Advantage gives you several ways to offer strong income protection value for residents. Check out these value-builders to grow your business and help new medical graduates get the income protection they need.

Offer 10% Off for Multi-Life

Residents at most ACGME- or AOA-accredited hospitals and medical centers can qualify for a 10 percent Residency Multi-Life Discount on Platinum Advantage. To be eligible, applications must be submitted on three or more lives within a six-month period.

Check out the list of approved institutions to spot your prospects. If an employer near you isn't listed, check with your Master General Agent or Securian Managing Partner to determine eligibility.

Skip the 75% 'Rule'

Platinum Advantage offers residents easy access to the Benefit Increase Rider, even on a lower-cost policy. To qualify for the BIR, most IDI applicants must accept 75 percent or more of the base coverage for which they qualify. But physician residents and fellows can start with as low as a $1,000 monthly benefit and still be eligible. They simply need to apply with The Standard's TeleApp process.

Talk About Those Student Loan Payments

Medical residents have enough on their minds. They don't need to add concerns about making their loan payments if they become seriously injured or sick and unable to work. With the Student Loan Rider, residents can add protection to ensure those payments will still be made. Even if they can't work due to total disability.

This rider pays up to $2,500 per month and is available for 10- and 15-year terms. With that kind of coverage and flexibility, it’s easy to help medical professionals get a financially secure start.

Show How 'Own Occ' and MDSA Stand Out

Platinum Advantage offers a rare combination: An own occupation definition of disability and unlimited mental disorder and substance abuse coverage for higher occupation classes, including physicians and surgeons.

The base policy provides benefits up to the maximum benefit period when a mental disorder or substance abuse causes or contributes to a disability. And the Own Occupation Rider offers the strongest definition in the industry for medical professionals who can no longer perform the duties of their regular occupation due to a disability. Together, these provisions add up to a standout policy for physicians.

Zero In on the Family Care Benefit

Medical professionals have often seen first-hand how a serious illness or injury can affect a family. So it's easy to show residents how our unique Family Care Benefit helps provide the financial freedom to help loved ones when it's needed most. After the benefit waiting period, this provision pays a benefit to the insured whose caregiving to a family member results in at least 20 percent fewer work hours and a 20 percent loss in income.

See the details in The Standard's Family Care Benefit flyer.

Help Make an Important Decision Easy

Residents make tough decisions every day, but you can help them simplify at least one. Show these new graduates the advantages that make Platinum Advantage the right choice.
