5 Ways Platinum Advantage is a Fit for Your Physician Clients

The Standard's Platinum Advantage offers top-of-the-line yet price-competitive income protection for the physician market. A comprehensive base contract, physician-specific occupation classes, optional riders and increase opportunities combine to create a high-value IDI policy perfectly suited for your medical resident and physician clients.

5 Ways Platinum Advantage is a fit for your physician clients:

  1. Expanded Physician Occupation Classes. IDI is not a “one size fits all” type of product, especially when it comes to physicians. That’s why we expanded occupation classes for Platinum Advantage — to offer a more flexible and competitively-priced product tailored specifically to your physician clients. The new 5P occupation class is for medical professionals not performing surgery or interventional procedures while most surgeons fall into the 4S class.
  2. Unlimited MDSA + Own Occupation.  Few carriers offer both unlimited mental disorder and substance abuse coverage and an own occupation definition of disability. For higher occupation classes, The Standard's base Platinum Advantage policy provides unlimited benefits — up to the maximum benefit period — when a disability is caused or contributed to by a mental disorder or substance abuse. The Own Occupation Rider offers the strongest definition of disability for highly specialized medical professionals who become disabled and can’t perform the duties of their regular occupation. Together, these provisions ensure a first-class IDI policy for your physicians.
  3. Student Loan Rider. New to Platinum Advantage, the Student Loan Benefit Rider is available to physicians and dentists. The up-to-$2,000 a month benefit is available for 10- and 15-year terms for eligible doctors, so your clients can breathe easy knowing their student loan bills will be covered if they cannot work due to a total disability.
  4. Increased Value for Residents. You can land physician clients early in their career with a flexible IDI policy that allows them to quickly increase their coverage as their income spikes. Here’s the key: residents can take as low as a $1,000 monthly benefit and still be eligible for the Benefit Increase Rider. While most applicants must accept 75 percent or more of the base contract coverage for which they qualify, this rule is waived for physician residents and fellows. Upon graduation or in the following six months, residents don’t have to wait to apply for an off-cycle increase to match their new increased income levels.
  5. 10% Discount for 3 or More Residents at the Same Program. Lastly, you can capture a 10 percent discount for your residents with the Residency Multi-Life Discount. Most ACGME and AOA medical centers are eligible, and only three applications must be submitted within a six-month period to establish the discount. To determine if your client's institution is ineligible for the discount, visit Residency Discount Ineligible Institutions.

We’re confident that if you compare us to the competition, you’ll see why Platinum Advantage is the right product at the right price for your physician clients.
