But I don't need Disability insurance

Did you know that pregnancy, childbirth, depression or anxiety are all considered covered disabilities? They can all keep you out of the classroom. If you’re unable to work due to an injury, illness (including mental health disorders and substance abuse), injury, pregnancy or childbirth - ask yourself how long you could go without your paycheck. Where health insurance pays your doctor - disability benefits are paid directly to you. You can use them for any expenses including rent/mortgage, groceries, utilities, etc. Apply now with no health questions asked.

Are you prepared?

Not all school districts provide disability insurance to their employees, and members aren’t always eligible for California’s state disability insurance program. This means you may be left with only sick leave to protect you if you are unable to work due to disability.

Highlights of the CTA-endorsed coverage provided by The Standard:

  • Pays up to 75% of your regular daily contract salary lost due to disability, subject to any benefit waiting period and reduced by deductible income.3
  • Covers disabilities that occur on or off the job.
  • Covers extra-duty pay such as coaching or tutoring.4

Student Loan Benefit and Cancer Benefit

CTA understands the emotional and financial burden members may experience due to outstanding student loans or being out of work on a disability claim due to a Cancer diagnosis. That’s why CTA worked with The Standard to offer a Student Loan Benefit and a Cancer Benefit for CTA members enrolled in CTA-endorsed Voluntary Disability insurance.

Student Loan Benefit
Active CTA members approved for a disability claim with an active student loan may be eligible for an additional benefit of up to $400 a month (for a maximum of $2,400, not to exceed the balance of the student loan).

Cancer Benefit
Active CTA members approved for a disability claim due to cancer may be eligible for an additional benefit of up to $200 a month (for a maximum of $1,000).

Both benefits are paid in addition to the disability benefits and are paid directly to CTA members to help pay for everyday expenses like student loans, rent/mortgage, or child care.
