The generosity of employees during The Standard's 2007 Employee Giving Campaign translated to more than a million dollars in financial support for a variety of community organizations working in the arts, social services, health and human services, education, the environment and civic projects. The fundraising achievement capped two weeks of zany games, events and prizes. Employees reached then passed an ambitious giving goal of $430,000, ultimately donating a total of $537,526. This amount was then matched by the company to bring the total donation to well over a million dollars, which was distributed to 675 organizations.
In addition, employees purchased raffle tickets, books, baked goods and more to raise an additional $16,000 for Portland-based Open Meadow Alternative School. A dozen days of games, laughs and songs for our employees and all for a good cause: giving back to the community.
In 2006, The Standard started the Jeans Days program which allows employees to wear jeans every Friday in exchange for a donation to a local charity. In the first year, $59,000 was raised for ChristieCare. In 2007, The Standard partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® with the proceeds $75,000! granting the wishes of 14 children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The Standard encourages employees to be active partners and good citizens by providing company-paid time off to volunteer. The Standard Employee Volunteer Program primarily serves as a tool for employees to connect with community organizations and to identify volunteer opportunities available in communities where they live and work. Through the program, employees are able to participate in company-organized volunteer activities every month and to volunteer with organizations on their own time. The Standard works to assist our employees connect with organizations best suited for their talents, enthusiasm and passion.

The Standard actively works to connect employees with nonprofits for board involvement. Annual training sessions are available for employees interested in learning about the fundamentals of board development and the legal and fiduciary responsibilities of board membership. Staff works with employees to find the right organization to match their interests, talents and passions.
