As the foundation of your employee benefits program, Hennepin County's Life and AD&D insurance coverage from The Standard offers you the opportunity to help protect you and your family from financial hardship in the event of death.

Following are brief descriptions of features included in this plan. These features offer additional benefits when an AD&D Insurance Benefit is payable:

Accelerated Benefit - Eligible members who are under age 60 and suffering from terminal illnesses may receive a one-time lump sum payment (up to 75 percent of their life insurance benefits).

Repatriation Benefit - Provides an additional benefit (up to $5,000 or 10 percent of the life insurance benefit, which ever is less) to help pay for expenses associated with transportation of an eligible deceased member if the place of death is more than 200 miles away from the member's primary residence.

Seat Belt Benefit - This provision provides an additional benefit in the event of a covered automobile accident.

Air Bag Benefit - This provision provides an additional benefit in the event of a covered automobile acident.

MEDEX^® Travel Assist - Designed to respond to most medical care situations and many other emergencies that you and your family may experience when traveling 100 miles or more from your home (or in a foreign country), MEDEX^® provides a wide-ranging program of information, referral, coordination and assistance services. These services include pre-trip assistance, medical assistance, emergency transportation, travel and technical assistance, legal services and medical supplies. Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year whether you are 100 or 10,000 miles from home. Simply print out and carry the MEDEX^® Travel Assist Card found in the MEDEX^® Travel Assist brochure.
