Looking Forward: New Growth And New Regulations
The month of February always has one foot stuck in winter and another looking forward to the promise of the newness of spring. In 2011, The Standard is looking forward to bringing our distributors new products and services. We’ve already launched the new Focused Growth Annuity 7 and 10. If you haven’t seen the new product or the competitive rates offered, check them out on our website.
This year is gearing up to be the year of annuity regulations and suitability. Several states have passed, or are about to pass new regulations that will require brokers to take continuing education courses specific to annuities. Brokers will also need to take product training for each carrier that they write business with. The Standard is working with vendors to provide you the means to tackle these new regulations and continue to make it easy to write fixed annuity business with The Standard.
As always, thank you for your business. We’re looking forward to our continued partnership with you in 2011 to bring new opportunities for success.

What You Need To Know About Power Of Attorney
by Bill Douglas, Individual Annuity Compliance Manager
The power of attorney is an important part of financial planning for many clients. A power of attorney is a legal instrument an individual uses to delegate legal authority to another person or persons to act on his/her behalf.
The person in the power of attorney who is delegated with the authority to act on behalf of another person is considered the "agent" or "attorney in fact." The person granting the authority is commonly referred to as the 'principal."
