
Life and Disability insurance plans have grown stronger with the addition of these enhancements.
Currently insured CTA members may increase their life coverage, without providing Evidence of Insurability (proof of good health), by one coverage option increment between September 1, 2007 and October 31, 2007.
CTA members currently insured under the CTA voluntary disability plan, and who are not currently covered under the CTA voluntary life plan, may add CTA voluntary life coverage (first increment or $25,000) between September 1, 2007 and October 31, 2007 without providing Evidence of Insurability.
CTA members currently insured under the CTA voluntary life plan, and who are not currently covered under the CTA voluntary disability plan, may add CTA voluntary disability coverage between September 1, 2007 and October 31, 2007 without providing Evidence of Insurability.
CTA members who are covered under a voluntary group life insurance plan provided by another insurance carrier may switch from their current carrier to The Standard during a scheduled "transfer enrollment" period. Evidence of Insurability will not be required to become insured under an option of life insurance which is equal to (or next higher, if an equivalent amount is not available) or less than the amount for which you were insured under the other group life insurance plan. The first transfer period is scheduled for October 15, 2007 - December 15, 2007.

MEDEX® provides participants and their families access to a comprehensive range of professional, 24-hour medical, legal and travel assistance information, referral and coordination services. This worldwide assistance service is available to plan participants whenever they are traveling 100 miles or more from home or when traveling in a foreign country for trips of up to 90 days.
This service is designed to help beneficiaries understand their current financial situation and provide guidance in completing a financial plan. This service is also available to CTA members receiving an accelerated benefit or qualified disability benefit.
If a CTA member applies for Dependent Life Insurance coverage within 31 days of becoming eligible under the plan, a benefit of $17,500 is guarantee issued. Guarantee issue means the amount of coverage for which a dependent could become insured without providing Evidence of Insurability (proof of good health).
CTA members may add or change their member and dependent coverages within 31 days following a family status change (e.g., marriage, divorce, birth/adoption of a child). Certain Evidence of Insurability requirements will be waived for member and dependent coverages in the event of a qualifying family status change.
This benefit provides a portion of the Life insurance benefit (up to 80%) to an insured CTA member who is terminally ill.
An additional benefit of up to $5,000 to pay expenses related to transporting the remains of a CTA member who dies more than 200 miles from their primary residence.
Insured CTA members have a convenient option to purchase qualifying amounts of life insurance if their insurance coverage ends because they cease to be in an eligible occupation or because of termination of employment.
Provides an additional $25,000 benefit if while at work a CTA member suffers an AD&D loss due to an act of physical violence punishable by law (not to exceed 50% of the AD&D amount).
Assists with child care expenses incurred within 36 months from the date of the CTA member's accidental death. Benefits are up to $5,000 per year, or the cumulative total of $10,000 or 25% of the AD&D Insurance Benefit, whichever is less.
Pays an additional $5,000 (not to exceed the AD&D amount) benefit if the CTA member dies as the result of an automobile accident for which a Seat Belt Benefit is payable and an air bag deploys.
Pays a monthly benefit equal to 1% of the AD&D amount for up to 30 months while a CTA member or insured dependent is in a coma.
A benefit is provided if death or other loss is due to exposure to the elements, a CTA member or insured dependent disappears in an accident (death is presumed after one year), or a hand or foot is severed and reattached.

Subject to any benefit waiting period, CTA members may qualify for disability benefits under the plan even though they are still working. There is no time limit on the period a CTA member may work while receiving benefits.
Subject to The Standard's prior approval, this benefit pays for up to $25,000 of an employer's expenses toward work site modifications that result in a disabled CTA member's return to work.
If coverage under the plan ends, a CTA member may be eligible to convert insurance to another disability plan.

This provision helps reimburse disabled CTA members who return to work by providing up to $250 per month per family member (not to exceed a total of $500 per month) for CTA members who have the added expense of family care, for up to 24 months.
Assists with child care expenses incurred within 36 months from the date of the CTA member's accidental death, up to $1,000 per year.
This provision provides a monthly benefit - $150 for each eligible student, with a maximum of $600 per month for all eligible students - for disabled employees who have children or a spouse who are registered, and in full-time attendance, at a licensed or accredited educational institution beyond high school.
A Survivor Benefit can help to address a family's financial need in the event of the disabled CTA member's death by paying a lump sum equal to three times the CTA member's unreduced disability benefit to eligible survivors.
