Standard Insurance Company's Short Term Disability insurance provides employees with income protection against disabilities resulting from a covered physical disease, injury, pregnancy or mental disorder. Short duration disabilities are more common than long term disabilities and are costly to employers both in lost productivity and actual expenses, especially if an employer currently has a salary continuance plan for short-term absences.
STD insurance offers an attractive way for employers to supplement their sick leave or statutory disability benefits programs and minimize the expense of continuing salaries while employees recuperate. The Standard’s STD plans feature the following flexible policy provisions and options:
A knowledgeable team of benefits analysts, vocational case managers and nurse case managers provides early screening, assesses disability duration and identifies return-to-work opportunities. As a result, employees may return to work sooner, and employers regain their valuable employees and contain disability claims costs.
For businesses that self-insure their STD plans, The Standard offers three administration options. Each is available to employer groups of at least 250 employees also covered by our Long Term Disability insurance and provides the same claims management expertise and service that our fully-insured customers receive.
Available in New Jersey, The Standard’s Temporary Disability Benefits (TDB) plans provide a temporary, weekly benefit to employees who are unable to perform the regular duties of their employment due to a sickness, pregnancy, mental disorder or an off-the-job, accidental injury. Our plans meet, at least, the minimum New Jersey State TDB coverage requirements.
The Standard offers Voluntary STD plans designed to meet the specific needs of different employer groups. The Standard provides personalized enrollment and product materials that help employers communicate the value of voluntary coverage to their employees.
